Monthly Gifts MATCHED in July
Hunger is on the rise in the heartland. Last year, Minnesota food shelves saw a record 7.5 million food shelf visits, and newly released data reports an increase in food insecurity rates, especially for families with children. It’s estimated that 1 in 7 Minnesota kids faces hunger*.
With continued sky-high grocery costs, coupled with the end of pandemic-era emergency food assistance, many local families are having an even harder time making ends meet. But together, we can meet the growing need in our community.
“The food shelf saved my life.” — Yannelly, local mother and shopper at Westonka Food Shelf in Mound, Minnesota.
One of the most effective ways you can help is by giving monthly. Sustaining monthly support helps ensure families like Yannelly’s have the nutritious food they need to thrive, no matter the circumstances or time of year.
By providing reliable, ongoing support to power our food bank operations, monthly gifts help make it possible for Second Harvest Heartland to provide over 100 million meals each year to our community. And right now, monthly gifts can go even further in impact: new monthly gifts can be MATCHED for six months.
Here’s how your monthly gift makes a difference:
- Keeps our local food shelf partners stocked with nutritious food to ensure our neighbors are fed year-round.
- Meets the growing need in our community—grocery costs are way up, while emergency food assistance has expired for thousands of neighbors. The families we serve are having an even harder time making ends meet, but we can help.
- Supports collaboration with our hunger-relief network—Second Harvest Heartland—with over 1,000 partners including food shelves, nonprofits and other hunger-relief programs—are all working together to provide healthy food where it’s needed most.
This is what you’re a part of when you give monthly. Reliable support from our community is what helps make this vital work possible and keeps our hunger-relief programs as strong as possible now, and in the months ahead.
When we all pitch in together—fueled by sustaining support from dedicated donors—we can get closer to ending hunger and ensure every kid and family in the heartland has the nutritious food they need, when they need it most.
