Breaking Fast Together: Celebrating with Oasis Market & Deli
On Thursday, March 27th, Oasis Market & Deli hosted their annual community iftar. Iftar is the fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan, enjoyed at sunset. One of Ramadan’s most cherished traditions is this act of breaking fast together, fostering a sense of community and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood.
Oasis Market & Deli has been a Kitchen Coalition partner since 2021, helping deliver fresh, culturally relevant prepared meals to neighbors with barriers to cooking. Oasis specializes in halal meals that are needed to ensure Kitchen Coalition meals can reach the Muslim community.
“Our mission is to bring the community together with meals that are very well needed,” says Amina Deble, the owner of Oasis. “Our goal is to provide meals to people in need.”

The Kitchen Coalition team joined religious leaders, local elected officials, and leaders in the local hunger relief network for iftar.
Ramadan is a month of reflection, devotion, and generosity. As neighbors, gathering for iftar is a beautiful way to celebrate this sacred time and extend hospitality to one another. The Second Harvest Heartland Kitchen Coalition team was honored to join religious leaders, local elected officials, and leaders in the local hunger relief network for this important evening meal. Many speakers at the event noted the diversity of those in attendance and how much they appreciated the feeling that everyone is welcome at Amina’s table.

Amina and Oasis Market & Deli provided the iftar meal for the community.
“The key messages of compassion and generosity during Ramadan apply to the work we do in partnership with Amina,” says Sarah Peterson, Director of Kitchen Coalition. “Those values that are central to her faith are what make her such a great partner in delivering meals to our neighbors with barriers to cooking throughout the year.”
Second Harvest Heartland and Kitchen Coalition are grateful for all those who help keep our neighbors fed, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
